By leaps and bounds

Время бежит быстро. Можно сказать, что семимильными шагами. Или не по дням, а по часам. Это если на Руси. А на Британщине - by leaps and bounds. Например:

The result has been that the rents of factories and workshops have been going up by leaps and bounds.

Our company has grown by leaps and bounds in the past two years.

Of course, if it had not been free, the digital age would not have grown by leaps and bounds.

Вообще-то leaps – это то же самое, что и bounds (что «прыжок», что «скачок» - разница невелика, согласитесь), поэтому когда англичанин ставит их вместе, они друг друга, как считается, усиливают. Делать так англичане стали с начала XVIII века. Говорят. Хотя ещё в 1837 году эта идиома, похоже, не была оформлена окончательно. Так в американском Western Courier мы встречаем всего лишь:

The noble animal gave a leap, one bound, and as the blood gushed in torrents from his breast, staggered and fell.

Правда, на следующий год The Native American писал:

We do not turn over the musty manuscript of the hoary past— but we leap and bound along with the swift current, swifter than ever…

Или:

…he looked at you, and your very soul bounded and leaped beneath the swimming glance of the philosopher.

Кембриджский словарь даёт такие синонимы:
